The Holocene epoch began about 11,700 years ago, bringing a warm, stable climate after the last Ice Age. The stability allowed humans to start farming – and eventually, grow grapes and make wine. The Holocene epoch encompasses all of modern civilization and the domestication of plants and animals.
Our Mission is to craft terroir-driven wines that are delicious, fresh, complete, textural, age-worthy, and true reflections of place and time.
We value the connections that wine has provided us along the way.
We are a small, family-owned wine brand with two generations at the helm.
We source from dry-farmed vineyards using organic practices, where sites possess a unique terroir.
Holocene is an exploration of the beautiful and exceptional growing regions of the Willamette Valley outside Portland, where we produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, expanding to other varietals in the near future (Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc).
We focus on whole cluster, native yeast fermentation for the Pinot Noir wines. The Chardonnays are made in two different ways: a reductive style with a little new oak and an oxidative style with no oak.
